An approximately 9 mile walk initially on country lanes before ascending the ridge via Lockyloch Hill to reach the summit of Tinto Hill (707 metres / 2320 feet) and a return to the car park at Fallburn via the more direct main route. If the weather is good, there will be extensive views of the Southern Uplands and the whole of central Scotland.
Though we are taking the longer, less steep route, there are still some strenuous sections across rough, potentially boggy, moorland. Walking boots are mandatory. This walk is limited to 15 walkers, plus the leader.
This walk will be open for booking on 26th April, please dont contact the leader before this date and also leave your mobile number in case of last minute changes to plan. As this is a car sharing walk could anyone willing to drive to Tinto please notify the leader as early as possible.
Meet outside Morrison’s supermarket next to Partick railway station ready to leave at 9am. This is a car-sharing walk. If you can offer a lift to those requiring one, please let the leader know as soon as possible. Passengers should be prepared to contribute towards petrol costs.
Meet at 10am at the car park at Fallburn, turning off the A73 at the Thankerton Crossroads. The Tinto Hill Tearoom sits at the junction and the car park is approximately quarter of a mile up the minor road.
