Leaders: Gill M. & Jane P.
This is a short but interesting and varied walk taking in both the historic centre of Totnes and some of the small orchards on the edges of the town. We start by walking along the River Dart to reach Totnes Bridge, then up Fore Street through the 16th/17th century town centre up to the Norman castle. We then head out of town in the hope of seeing displays of apple blossom in the community orchards in Follaton cemetery and Follaton arboretum. We continue uphill from the arboretum to a public byway from where we can enjoy stunning views towards Dartmoor. On returning to Totnes using the bridleway at Harpers Hill, our final visit will be to the more mature Woodland Trust-owned orchard at Colwell Wood, the site of 50 varieties of Devon apples, including some rarities, and other fruit trees.
If you would like to join this walk, please notify the leaders, preferably by email, so that they can inform you of any late changes to arrangements.
