This is the first of three walks that will take us along the Union Canal that runs for 31 miles from Falkirk to Fountainbridge in Edinburgh.
This first section is a level walk from Falkirk High Station to Linlithgow taking us through a long, occasionally drippy, tunnel once used by Burke and Hare, and across the Avon viaduct. The single file tunnel footpath is uneven, slippy in places and requires care, there is a rail so it's quite safe!
Linlthgow is famous for its Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. If the weather is favourable you may wish to join an optional extension to the Palace, which although closed is still worth a look from outside, and to the Loch that sits below it.
Trains back to Glasgow Queen Street run every 30 minutes or so.
Please note : The start and finish times are an approximation only.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks before the walk. Also, please provide the leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
Be sure to inform the walk leader should you wish to go directly to the meeting point.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
