This walk is on mainly good paths but a few sections are across fields and may be mudday. Thereis also a narrow path by the Transporter Bridge. This is a fairly easy walk with some significant points of industrial history to be undertaken at a steady pace.

We will walk past the Transporter Bridge which is one of only 3 in country, then a short distance on the road before entering Sankey Valley Park. The now disused Sankey Canal which was Englands first modern canal built in the industrial revolution which follows the valley. We will generally follow the canal but walk away from it in some areas to provide variety.

We will leave the canal at The Nine Arches Viaduct (the outward train journey crosses this) The viaduct is a Grade 1 listed building. A short section through the park and we will soon be back at the station
