I last led this walk on 22/05/21, so some time spent navigating might be required.
There is ascent and descent throughout the walk so a good level of fitness is required. There are two short sections where we will be walking on local roads. The route also covers fields and woods.
Elsecar to Wentworth via the following follies: Needle's Eye, Hoober Stand, Rockingham Monument (if this monument is open you have to pay an admission charge to see it, but you will see glimpses of it at a later point in the walk), Keppel's Column.
We pass Wentworth Woodhouse, a Grade I listed country house, then walk through the estate village. We then return to Elsecar.

There is a train station in Elsecar, which is a 10/15 minute walk from the start point. Most trains have one connection, but the ones in the photo are direct (Information is from the Trainline website).
.
Driving South on the M1:
DO NOT exit at Junction 37 which has a brown tourist sign for Wentworth Castle.
DO exit at Junction 36 which has a brown tourist sign for Elsecar Heritage Centre.
After you exit onto the sliproad turn left at the roundabout; it now gets a little bit confusing as there are several lanes to choose from, you need to be turning right but need to be in the left hand lane for Elsecar.
