A grand walk crossing remote areas of the Surrey hills area of outstanding natural beauty. Taking time to explore Ranmore Common, in particular the hidden Bagden Valley below Polsdean Lacey house, White Downs, Hackhurst Down and Sheeplease. Much of the trail is wooded. On the North Downs part of the route there are many many pillboxes or 'hardened field defenses' remnants from the second world war. Toward the end of the walk we pass St Mary's Church West Horsley, where it is said 'the head of Walter Raleigh is buried below the chapel floor'...
This is a linear walk. Please note there are some long gentle uphills and some short but steep ascents. Wear suitable shoes and clothing as some paths are overgrown and if wet can be slippery and muddy. Please bring a packed lunch.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
