Join us for a walk starting at The Cricketers car park in the tranquil village of Weston. As we set out mid-morning, the air will likely be crisp and fresh, with low sunlight casting long shadows. Trees in the village will be turning; burnished copper, yellow gold and fiery red, the leaves clinging to branches or carpeting the footpaths.
We'll follow well marked footpaths heading towards Warrens Green. This part of the walk takes us through hedgerow-lined paths, arable fields and the edges of ancient woodland. We may encounter pheasants and partridges darting through the underbrush. Deer and squirrels may also be seen.
We'll continue to Halls Green, and if agreed, will take a short detour to The Fairclough Hall Estate, home to The Lolleywood Cafe. This estate, nestled in gently rolling classical Hertfordshire countryside, offers an excellent place for a break with it's warm, rustic ambience and local produce.
Back on the track we'll rejoin the Weston Jubilee Path toward Weston passing ancient oaks and beech trees which line parts of the path. We'll pass the Holy Trinity Church whose historic flint stone and peaceful graveyard are particularly picturesque against the autumn backdrop.
Sturdy waterproof walking boots are recommended as long grass may be dewy and wet. Warm clothing and a light waterproof jacket to protect against wind or rain will be ideal and possibly a hat as mornings can be chilly as we head into autumn. A water bottle or warm drink and a snack are suggested.
The walk offers a quintessentially British autumn experience from crunching leaves underfoot to sipping tea or coffee in a rural cafe as the natural world transitions to winter. The walk is relatively flat with well marked footpaths and the occasional stile.
