Overview

A varied route of woods, river and fields around Whitley Chapel.

Our route begins north from Whitley Chapel to Mollersteads, across farmland and into woods along the Rowley Burn. We turn, passing through Steel, to pick up the route of "A Pennine Journey" on good tracks alongside Devil's Water. We come to the remains of the smelter mill at Dukesfield Arches that dates from the late 1600s (and a chance to explore the history). We continue south through woods to emerge above Rawgreen. Crossing the Devil's Water, our return is via Aydon Shields and Quakers' Hole wetlands reserve.

We will return to Whitley Chapel village hall where tea and cakes will be provided from 1pm prior to the Area AGM (please bring your own lunch to eat at the hall). All are welcome even if not staying for the Area AGM.

There will be a coffee/water break during the walk as we stop at Dukesfield Arches.
