The walk begins from the small village green in the centre of Dacre village, opposite the driveway to Dacre Castle. Upon leaving the village it follows the old route past the Castle to Dalemain. It then crosses parkland and continues beside the River Eamont to Pooley Bridge. From the shores of Ullswater it ascends into high plantations before following a route across undulating farmland past Bennethead, Sparket Mill and Hutton John. The return to Dacre keeps above the valley of Dacre Beck before descending dramatically back to the village.
