This varied circular walk starts from Hawthorns's Car Park in Farley Mount Country Park. It passes through West Wood and then along Burrow Road to Ham Green. After crossing a field with views back to Sparsholt, we enter Crab Wood and hope to enjoy some early Spring flowers. We then take Lanham Lane to the edge of Winchester, where we turn left onto Dean Lane and head for the Plough at Sparsholt, where lunch is available for pre-ordering. Any picknickers can use the Green by the Sparsholt Village Hall. After lunch, we return via Moor Court and Newbarn Farms, and the site of a Roman Villa in West Wood.
The walk include some roads, good tracks, and paths, some of which are muddy, and is undulating, with ups and downs, but no significant hills and no stiles. It is about 5.75 miles to lunch and 3 miles after lunch. When pre-walked in early March, there were some muddy patches but nothing too bad. If you use poles, you may find them useful.
Please let me know if you wish to come on this walk as we may leave early if all known walkers are there. Please also bring refreshments for a coffee stop. Please let me have your lunch orders by 6.00pm on Tuesday 26th March. The menu is at:
