Overview

A moderate walk from Allensford Country Park.

We pass through newly planted woodland in a reclaimed quarry up to Rowley and the magnificent Hownsgill Viaduct before following the Waskerley Way towards Whitehall. The route then descends through farmland and mixed woodland back to the Derwent Valley. Some boggy patches and two shallow streams en route.

Meet at Allensford country park (free car park). Allensford park is signed on the left from the A68 southbound as you enter County Durham - a sharp left turn at the far side of the bridge at Allensford. Car sharing is recommended and we try to offer an informal share from the Wentworth car park in Hexham. Please contact the walk leader if you are interested (driver or passenger).
