Overview

An historic walk from Alston using the Pennine Way and the Isaac Tea Trail passing Whitely Castle Roman Fort. The route out to Kirkhaugh includes field paths and 3 stiles. There are two fields with cattle and young and one field with a bull that was happy to ignore us. Most of the ascent is in the first half of the walk. We return to Alston using a quiet minor road, further field paths and the South Tynedale Railway path. The railway tea room is open on the 23rd.
