A walk with extensive views of the Coquet Valley and beyond and taking in Thropton and the Terraces.
We climb from the car park up to Rothbury terraces, passing the picturesque Addycombe Cottages, built in 1873 for retiring staff of Lord Armstrong’s household. We contour along the terraces, with splendid views of the Coquet valley and Simonside. We descend Physic Lane to Thropton, cross the Coquet and its flood plain, then walk up a minor road to Tosson Lime Kiln (a possible lunch stop). We continue uphill past Great Tosson bastle to Whitton, with views of the Coquet valley from the other side, then descend to Sharpe’s folly and Rothbury.
Terrain: mostly tracks, some moorland paths, about 1.5 miles on minor road.
