Overview

The previous chain-ferry walk was from West Leake – by contrast this circuit starts from Hathern. From the Anchor Inn we walk through the village passing the medieval Hathern cross then wending our way down to the River Soar on the outskirts of Loughborough. We continue along the river to the chain-ferry where we cross the river in small groups to the medieval Church of St James in Normanton on Soar. The chain-ferry is one of only a few operating in the country - there is a small charge, currently £1/person, 50p for dogs! We continue on to Zouch and Sutton Bonington and return along the banks of the Soar to cross the weir at Zouch to complete the circuit back to Hathern. The walk is generally level on good paths, although sections can be muddy following periods of rain.

If you would like to join this walk please contact the Leader using the email link. The number of walkers will be limited to 20 (due to ferry transfer and parking).
