A walk passing two churches and rambling alongside a river, enjoying beautiful countryside. Walking up to Bengeo, passing St Leonard’s church, Hertford’s oldest building and the venue of an annual pet service in July. Making our way across Bengeo field, the site of the Hert4 development, with its exceptionally beautiful rolling landscape. Prior to St John’s Wood, we shall make our way eastwards to the river Beane and onwards to Stapleford village church. Following Church Lane we shall meet the footpath to Chapmore End village to enjoy festive refreshments at The Woodman Public house, whose facilities are exclusively for patrons. There is a welcoming bench around a tree next door to the Woodman for picknickers. I am unable to guarantee food at the pub. After this break, we shall return through St John’s Wood and retrace our steps to Hartham.
The end times of our walks are approximate. Our walks are relaxed affairs where weather, ground conditions, people we meet along the way, views, nature and wildlife can all affect the time a walk might take. So please bear this in mind when joining us on one of our walks.
