Everyone is welcome on this easy going walk from Hertford Town Football Club on West Street, out along the Cole Green Way, a rail trail now providing a walking and cycling route between Hertford and Welwyn Garden City, to Hertingfordbury. We will leave the Cole Green Way and walk by the River Lee to Roxford, then through Grotto Wood, a great area for bluebells and birdsong, to East End Green. We then walk through Birch Green to Panshanger Park, where we will take a path through woods on the hill above the lakes, towards chisel shelf then back to Hertingfordbury, visiting the Church, if it is open, to see the fine memorials. The return to Hertford is on a quiet road and then a path parallel to the Cole Green Way.
Parking is available at Hertford Town Football Club, off West Street. If anyone is travelling by train, I will be walking from Hertford North station to the football ground about 9.15 a.m.. Please let me know if you would like to join me for this. There are no facilities on the route but we will stop for a break in Birch Green, please bring your own snack and drink. There are pubs and cafes in Hertford for post walk refreshments. There are 2 short stretches of road walking in Hertingfordbury where care is required.
