Overview

From the Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve car park we follow good tracks and paths through the gorged woodland to the sea at Dene Mouth, Horden. We then follow the Durham Coast path with its flora and stunning views south as far as Blackhall Rocks where we turn inland.  We then cross fields, through Tweddle Children's farm and onto the disused Hart to Haswell railway. These fields can be rough at times. A gentle walk along the railway calling into Monk Hesleden for lunch. We then join the railway again to Castle Eden. We return to the carpark via Castle Eden Church and the south section of the Dene. There are approx 6 stiles on the route. Distance is 9 miles with 263m ascent and descent.
