From Wass we climb steadily up through Abbey Bank Wood to Byland Moor. Half of the walk's ascent is now done. Then it's a level path to our coffee stop at Cam House with beautiful views on a clear day. It's a long, gradual descent through Cockerdale Wood into Oldstead followed by a short climb to High Kilburn for lunch. Descending down to Fox Folly we take the path to Cams Head where in order to avoid several fields of cows with calves we join the road to Byland Abbey where it's possible to have a look around the ruins (currently open and free of charge) before returning to Wass.
Expect sheep & ponies enroute.
Approx 10 stiles, mostly in good order but some are quite high.
Post walk refreshments at Rumah Home Tearoom, Coxwold YO61 4AD
