Buy a return ticket to Walton-on-the Naze.
Catch the 09:18 train from Liverpool Street (or 09:25 from Stratford), changing at Thorpe-le-Soken for the 10:41 to Frinton-on-Sea.
We will walk along the promenade from Frinton to Walton-on-the-Naze. We will have our "banana break" at the entrance to Walton Pier, where there are a number of cafes. We may have a longer break than usual, to allow anybody so inclined to get a coffee/ice-cream, walk along the pier, or maybe have a go on the dodgems!
We'll then continue along the coast to the Naze Tower, where we'll have our lunch break. There are three cafes here, as well as plenty of benches and picnic tables. There'll be time to climb the Tower (Admission £4.50 and 111 steps - art exhibits for sale over 8 floors and a viewing gallery at the top).
After lunch, we'll walk over the cliffs along the edge of the Naze peninsula and then (assuming my calculations are correct that the tide will have receded sufficiently!), along the spit to Stone Point. We'll then return to the Naze Tower along the beach, before retracing our steps back to Walton-on-the-Naze, from where we'll catch the train back.
Technically "linear" in that we end at a different station from where we start - but more of an "R" shape really!
The morning is mainly on tarmac/concrete, with grass and sand in the afternoon. There are some steps but, otherwise, no steep climbs and no stiles.
It is possible to drop out at lunch by getting the bus (or walking - 1.7 miles) from the Naze Tower to Walton-on-the-Naze.
There are toilets at Frinton station or, if these are closed, about 10 minutes into the walk (25p). There are then several other toilet opportunities throughout the walk.
Some cafes at Walton pier and the Naze Tower don't take cards (due to poor internet connection), so do bring cash.
