After a few metres of steep ascent from Chorleywood Station, we emerge into the attractive and level Chorleywood Common. Leaving the common behind, we drop sharply down into the Chess valley (views along the valley). Near the valley floor, we turn north and soon cross the river, continuing north west. We then turn sharply and head up the hill towards Church End, which as you would expect has a church, but also a pub. We hope to visit the former, and those who wish may visit the latter for lunch, (3.4 km, 2.1 miles into the walk). Picnic option available. After lunch we drop steeply back down into the Chess valley, then, after re-crossing the river, we climb rather more gradually up the opposite side of the valley. From there it is a level walk to the delightful village of Chenies. Here there is an excellent church with tombs of the Dukes of Bedford, which we hope to see. We will see the exceptional 16th century Chenies Manor House where the Dukes lived. We then continue on a level path with views to the north of the Chess valley, and finish with a bit of road walking to Chalfont and Latimer Station. Overall ascent 166 metres, and descent 130 metres.
