The numbers on this walk are limited. Booking is essential so please use the email link to book a place. The walk is now fully booked
Please meet at Totteridge and Whetstone tube station in good time for a prompt departure at 10.00 am. I will try to confirm if the platform toilets will be available. The lunch stop will be in the village of Mill Hill where there are benches for picnic eaters. I booked six places for lunch at the Three Hammers and all the pub lunch places are now taken.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY 14 JANUARY. I have just come back from walking over the route again. The last walkover I did was on 27 December. The morning part to Mill Hill village is fine and not too muddy. It is possible to drop out by bus from there. After lunch we walk through many fields at least 3 of which are now accessed by deep quagmires caused by recent rain. I see that there will be more rain between now and Saturday. To do the afternoon ankle boots are essential and the tongue of the boot needs to be waterproof. Some pools of water are edged with thorny bushes so you need tough clothing and to take care.
This is a surprisingly green almost rural walk through London's greenbelt with not much pavement walking. Highlights include Darlands Lake Nature Reserve, Totteridge Common, Mill Hill Village and Totteridge Village. Much of it is on level ground but be aware of a long ascent of about 900 metres in the morning. There is one stile in the afternoon. It is possible to drop out at lunchtime by taking bus 240 to Mill Hill East or Golders Green tube stations. We finish at Totteridge and Whetstone tube.
