This walk is almost entirely on the Nidderdale Way following the loop from Lofthouse to the Scar House Reservoir.
Starting at the How Stean George activity centre we follow the trail on a long steady incline out of Middlesmoor and through the moors to high above the reservoir. A steep decent takes us to the dam then we climb up the other side and follow “the edge” as the way heads back to Lofthouse dropping down to the Nidd (largely none existent at this point in its journey).
Beautiful views across the moors particularly in the first half of walk and quiet tree lined partly hidden dry stream beds toward the end.
There are two steep descents where poles would be useful.
Most of the walk is on good tracks with a bit through fields and moors.
