A lovely walk for Autumn on paths probably unfamiliar to many. A short, sharp uphill is followed by a level stretch through pastures (with surprising views down to Ampleforth) leading to a narrow path above Ampleforth Abbey quarry and past the Monks' graveyard (walk poles highly recommended for this part as fallen leaves will obscure underlying rocks). Good tracks and some road walking before a few muddy field edges take us in to pretty Sproxton. We'll stop at St Chads for lunch giving an opportunity to pop into the tiny church, then it's a long gradual climb along Hag Lane up to Pry Rigg Plantation with a final view back towards Ryedale. We follow forest paths to Studford Ring before an increasingly steep descent into Amp and the tearoom!
Considerate roadside parking on West End (the main street) or round the corner on Railway St
