The Ring of Trees walk passes through 200 acres of woodland which encircle Buxton, most of which are owned by the Buxton Civic Association. Originally planted by the Chatsworth Estate to regenerate hillsides that had been scarred by lime burning, the woods are now filled with wildlife and wild flowers.
This walk includes a steep climb up to Solomon's Temple, a folly built in 1896 which sits on top of a Bronze Age barrow and a perfect spot for lunch and to admire the views.
As this walk skirts the edge of Buxton we will pass through a few urban and residential streets as we link to the next woodland area.
Some paths will be muddy and may be slippy so good footwear must be worn. Please bring lunch, water and hot drink.
