Join us in this delightful circular walk on the Pennine Way!
From the pretty market town of Middleton-in-Teesdale, our route follows the Pennine Way north along the river Tees on a good path often bordered with wildflowers. At the hamlet of Holwick, we cross through fields to make our way on a bridleway up Holwick Scars (formed by glacial erosion).
We continue south on a bridleway across grassy moors above the Tees valley with superb views in all directions, and, on the pre-walk, the heather on surrounding moors was in full bloom. The bridleway skirts the base of Green Fell and contours down to Collin Hill farm. At this point, we rejoin the Pennine Way as it works its way northeast via Pin Gate below Harter Fell. Along this path we should have extensive views south across both Grassholme and Selset reservoirs in Lunedale. We are rewarded with a lovely grassy bridleway for our descent back to Middleton-in-Teesdale (and a chance for a cup of tea!).
There are several stiles on this walk and a few streams to cross, some with stepping stones.
