Overview

A linear walk and the first section of the 24 mile Two Castles Trail that links Okehampton and Launceston Castles. Catching the 306 bus from Bridestowe to the start at Okehampton. A variety of terrain with some good viewpoints including from the Meldon Viaduct. Includes part of the Granite Way.

Surfaces: Uneven surfaces, including fields, grassy lanes and woodland tracks. Some muddy stretches after heavy rain. Road section into Bridestowe.

Gradients: A steep climb away from the West Okement River below Meldon Viaduct. Fairly steep descent to Sourton. 

A few gates. Two foot-bridges with steps. Many stiles south of Sourton.

Livestock in fields so dogs must be on leads. 

Bring a packed lunch and flask.

On street parking by the cemetery at SX 514 896 to catch the 306 bus from Bridestowe Garage - scheduled to depart at 09.58 arriving in Okehampton at around 10.10am Car sharing from Pixon Lane, Tavistock encouraged. Walk leader will not be there.
