A linear walk from the start of the Two Castles Trail. We'll catch the 118 bus at 09.51am from Lydford to Okehampton and hike most of stage 1 of the trail. A variety of terrain including bridlepaths, moorland, fields and a golf course! Some good viewpoints including from the Meldon Viaduct. We'll leave the trail just before Bridestowe and join the Dartmoor Way to Lydford.

Surfaces: Uneven surfaces, including fields, moorland, grassy lanes, stony paths and woodland tracks. Some muddy stretches.
Gradients: A short, steep climb away from the West Okement River below Meldon Viaduct. A few lesser, longer gradients on bridlepaths.
A few gates. Two foot-bridges with steps. Many stiles south of Sourton.
Livestock in fields so dogs must be on leads.
Bring a packed lunch and flask.

Paid car park plus some on street parking by The Castle Inn, Lydford at EX20 4BH to catch the 118 bus from outside the pub - scheduled to depart at 09.48 arriving in Okehampton at around 10.09am Car sharing from Pixon Lane, Tavistock encouraged. Walk leader will not be there.
The walk starts by passing through the gated courtyard by the Museum of Dartmoor Life and Tourist Information Centre.
