A narrated walk for Black History Month. We start in South Kensington and visit places of interest enroute to North Kensington. Many will be surprised to learn that areas of North Kensington are some of the most deprived areas in the UK. We will start in the wealthiest and most affluent areas including walking along Kensington Palace Gardens the elegant, tree-lined avenue often dubbed “Billionaire’s Row”. It stretches from Kensington High Street past Kensington Palace toward Notting Hill Gate.
We will then walk through Notting Hill down to Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. This area has deep history particularly with the Caribbean community highlighted annually with the Notting Hill Carnival which we will explore its origins. We will visit various places of interest relating to the Black community in the area. We will visit the site of Kelso Cochranes murder and the Mangrove Cafe and discuss the significance and parallels with current day events.
