We are the Northallerton Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
Walk from the Village Southwest via Broad gate farm and Dale Head Farm up to the main Blakey Road. Cross over the main road and head down to Stormy Hall, where we follow the Esk Valley Walk route for a short while before heading towards Danby church. We walk North along the minor road (Wandell's lane) and circle the Howe hill (from where we'll hopefully have good views of Castleton), before heading across fields and moorland to Westerdale Moor, John Breckon Road and return to Westerdale.
The walk is undulating in places and involves walking across fields, moorland tracks and minor roads, with some mud in places. There are 6 stiles, which are mostly in good order.

Please note that the access roads to Westerdale are mostly moorland single track roads, the road from Castleton direction being the widest road. Note that the road from the North goes via a water splash at Hob Hole- caution should be exercised here if we've had lots of rain and the stream is swollen-use the alternative route from the Castleton direction then. Free Parking at roadside in Westerdale village- please avoid the white lines on the roadside, but there is plenty of room. Toilets are available at the village hall car park.
