Walking in Pontypool and beyond
Welcome to the Pontypool Ramblers group. We formed in 1967 and are now a flourishing and friendly group in South Wales. We cater for walkers with varying needs, from those who prefer a leisurely circuit to those who want a longer walk across hillside, valleys and moorland.
The areas we include in our walks programme vary from the eastern side of the Brecon Beacons National Park, to the South Wales Valleys and also to the Wye Valley. All have their own unique attractions such as history or archaeology, or maybe just stunning views, and we try to highlight each of these on our walks.
Remember that Ramblers allow non-members to try before you buy for up to three walks, so why not give us a try. It's a good way to meet new friends and learn more about the area. You'll find us very welcoming.
Our walking community
We usually run two walks per week, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays, starting at 10.00am. Our midweek walks are around 4-7 miles and are generally less demanding. Our weekend walks are longer, but don't usually exceed 10 miles, and the pace set by our trained walk leaders and back-markers will not leave anyone behind!
Currently we operate a pre-booking system, so that walk leaders know how big the group will be, and this also helps for contact tracing. We follow Ramblers guidance for safety of our walkers, and all walks will have been checked by the walk leaders in advance.
We also run well-supported social events often with guest speakers, and we usually arrange an annual 7-days group holiday based in popular walking areas of the UK.
Join us on our walks and see some of the best countryside in South Wales. You can also learn more about the Ramblers volunteering opportunities available.
