Overview

B WALK DESCRIPTION: A moderately challenging walk in the Worcestershire countryside. Some steep inclines - stout footwear essential. Distance 9.5 miles. Gradient 1600ft. We begin our walk in Abberley village, picking up a footpath heading north towards Jacob's Well. We follow quiet country lanes until we reach Worsley farm, then head north alongside a horse racing track. Soon afterwards we arrive at Worsley House - a derelict grade II listed building in a pleasant setting where we will take a short break. We then follow the driveway before heading downhill to join a public footpath heading east towards Upper Norchard farm, with fine views of the surrounding countryside. After passing Ivyhouse Cottages we join the Worcestershire Way and head southwest, passing Netherton House before arriving at a tranquil waterside location where we will pause for our lunch break. Continuing uphill on the Worcestershire Way we arrive at the gateway to the Abberley Hills, with good views to the east. We reach Ramscombe Coppice and head steeply uphill before joining the main ridge. The Abberley Hills are densely wooded and the views may be somewhat restricted until we reach the toposcope marking the highest point. From here the Abberley Clock Tower is clearly visible, with the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons in the distance (we will pause for a short break at this point). We then head downhill to arrive at Abberley village, and if time permits may patronise the Manor Arms Inn. Finally we head northwest through the village green and along quiet lanes and footpaths to rejoin the coach at Snead Common. (There is also a pub at the end of the walk if we return in good time!). The fare is £15.
