Overview

The walk starts in Alston and follows the South Tyne River via field paths, and a short steep woodland path to reach a quiet road to Randalholm.  It then climbs on a broad track through Kirkside Wood to gain extensive panoramic views across the north Pennines. The descent is via Isaac's Tea Trail back to the Rive Tyne.  After crossing the River and the Railway, the route follows the Pennine Way back to Alston.  This part of the walk crosses fields that can be muddy and boggy in places but once again provides extensive views.
