The walk takes us from the village of Greetham across to the neighbouring village of Exton. From there we go to Fort Henry, a gothic folly sitting beside its own lake, returning from there to Greetham.
The walk affords extensive views of the surrounding countryside and a landscape shaped by a now largely forgotten industrial past.
Apart from two short sections at the beginning and repeated at the end the entire walk is on good made-up paths and farm tracks through and around the Exton Park Estate. These sections are unavoidable but are drying out and passable without difficulty. One short piece is on ground that has been saturated but this too is drying out.
If you would like to join this walk please contact the Leader using the email link.
Please bring refreshments for coffee and lunch breaks.
Please be there for 9.45am so as not delay the start. Note that clocks will have gone forwards by 1 hour overnight.
The meeting place is about 50 minutes’ drive from West Bridgford and is about 2 miles from the A1.
At the end of the walk, we can recommend the Hambleton Bakery Café which is about 1 1/2 miles away, take the road west from Greetham and then take the first left, do another left turn and the café is on the left. (Follow the brown signs).
You can make a pleasant journey home via Rutland Water North Shore, Oakham and Melton or via Wymondham, Walton and the Vale of Belvoir.
