This easy and almost flat walk explores the pleasantly wooded countryside around Brampton and uses a network of quiet country roads, a disused railway line and good paths and tracks. The route is circular, passing above the River Gelt, then Low Gelt Bridge to Brampton. After passing through Brampton centre the dis-used ‘Dandy Line’ leads to Brampton Station, then return to the Tarn via Farlam.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept under close control at all times, preferably on a lead.
The route passes the Capon Tree memorial which marks the scene of historical hangings. In Brampton the inside of St Martin’s Church, especially the stained glass, is worth a look. Lunch will probably be in another historical (early 1900s) building - the Howard Memorial Shelter.
Talkin Tarn car park is pay and display: £2.70 per day.
