BROOK TO NEWPORT ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT

There is all day parking in Western Esplanade for £8 (July 2025) pay by Debit card - Credit Cards not accepted. Meet at the Red Jet Terminal in Town Quay Southampton in time to get a ticket to West Cowes on the ferry at 9.00. Standard Day Return £23.20; for 60+ £15.60. If four less than 60 years of age want to travel as a Group both ways there is a ticket at £17.40 per person. Then a short walk to the bus stop at West Cowes to get Bus No 1 to Newport Bus Station. Then Bus No 12 at 10.40 to Brook to start the walk around 11.30. The first three miles involve climbing over Brook Down and Chessell Down. A picnic lunch will be taken at the latter from where the photo was taken. Away from the Downs the next six miles is a mixture of paths, tracks and minor roads with the only village that of Calbourne where there will be a visit to the church. The final 1.6 miles is through back streets and paths through Carisbrooke and Newport. Once at the Bus Station it is the number 1 back to West Cowes. If no bus pass it will cost £3 for each of the three trips.  Then return on the Red Jet. The 10.60 mile walk should take around six hours. As a rough guide the party should be back in Southampton between 19.00 and 19.30.
