Step into the New Year with a circuit of Cotgrave Country Park. Managed by Notts County Council, the park is a 400-acre green space on reclaimed land of the site of the former Cotgrave colliery.
Starting from The Shepherds P&R, we will do a looped circuit of the park, entering along the disused mineral railway built to transport coal from the colliery to local power stations.
The walk is entirely on surfaced paths. In some places, these have suffered from wear and erosion. The path up to the top of one of the spoil heaps is short but quite steep.
The walk provides good views over the park landscape and from the tops of the two former spoil heaps of the local area as a whole.
Some of the paths are multi-user and parts are popular with dog walkers.
There are no facilities in the park.
We will make drinks/ snack stops at the two main viewpoints. Because this is a shorter walk than usual, I don't propose to have a "lunch stop."
