Overview

A morning walk around two highly attractive north Hertfordshire villages, Nuthampstead and Anstey. Both villages are historically interesting and by modern day standards, remain relatively isolated with no main roads running through either, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of past times. The walk also affords far reaching views and woodland and a pub with strong connections to WW2.

The Woodman Inn was built in the 17th century and, during WW2, was regularly frequented by American airmen who were stationed at Nuthampstead Airbase. The pub has incredible and unique photographs from this time displayed throughout the pub, as well as a huge map of where the airbase was situated next to the pub.
