This is another Lea Valley chain walk: a linear section, starting near Rye House Station and finishing near Cheshunt Station as we follow the River Lea southwards towards Limehouse and the Thames.
From Rye House we walk along the River Lea Navigation towpath, crossing over Fieldes Lock, over Fieldes Weir, along a section of the River Stort Navigation towpath then around the back of Glen Faba lake, crossing the Flood Relief Channel and re-joining the Lea Navigation at Dobbs Weir, continuing along the towpath to Broxbourne Riverside where we will pause at the picnic area next to the Old Mill Retreat Cafe - refreshments can be bought, or bring your own. There are public toilets nearby.
We then continue southwards on the towpath and skirt around Seventy Acre Lake, pausing at the bird hide - a Bittern was observed on a previous walk - then the final stretch to Cheshunt Station.
There are 2 cafes and a pub nearby for optional after-walk refreshments.
There is a free car behind the old Rye House gatehouse and usually some free roadside parking spaces in Fishermans Way. For those arriving by rail there are scheduled trains from both directions which fit quite well with the 10:00 start time. After the walk, anyone needing to get back to Rye House can take the 9-minute train journey.
There could be some mud at Glen Faba.
