Join us for a lovely circular walk through the varied Hertfordshire countryside around Waterford Heath. Starting from the car park of this former sand and gravel quarry, we cross the south heath passing a fascinating large pudding stone, before heading west to join the River Beane — a globally rare chalk stream that rises near Sandon. We follow the Hertfordshire Way (Leg 11) through Bulls Mill and the attractive Foxleys Wood, continuing on to Stapleford and the elegant parkland of Woodhall Park. Returning via Chapmore End, we cross the north heath back to the car park, passing the distinctive Breaking the Mould sculpture on the way.
The route follows well-defined paths across heathland, woodland and riverside meadows at a relaxed, easy pace.
Please bring water and a snack.
New walkers are very welcome — please arrive a few minutes early to introduce yourself before we set off.
