A walk through a fascinating industrial landscape with a backdrop of the Cleveland Hills in the far distance.
Meeting at Greatham War Memorial we walk out of the village and over the railway crossing towards Seal Sands walking beside Greatham Creek until we reach the A178 Tees Road. At this point we may see seals basking on the mud flats and plenty of wading birds depending on the tides.
After leaving the creak we follow the England Coastal Path next to the A178. This is a busy road so not the most pleasant part of the walk.
After about half a mile we turn off the road into the Greythorpe Industrial Estate where we find a grassy (and somewhat sloppy in places) footpath. The path takes us around the perimeter of an oil storage facility and along the side of the railway tracks until we cross a bridge over the railway onto Thorn Tree Lane , along Station Road and back into Greatham Village where we complete a half mile loop around the fields.
