From Lopwell Dam car park we ascend through woods and quiet roads around the top of the Maristow estate and then follow the roads, paths and farm tracks to Blaxton Wood and follow the Tavy back to the start. Thanks to Helen and Jenny who have both led a similar walk in the past.
The road from Milton Coombe to Lopwell Dam has been closed this week but I was reassured it would be open for our walk. An alternative route is to take the main A386 from Yelverton towards Plymouth and turn right before the Clearbrook exit on the left and follow the signs to Maristow from there.
We start with a couple of sharp ascents with some forest track and road walking. Some tracks through woods may be muddy as one would expect from West Devon in March. .The final part of the walk through Blaxton Wood is along the path close to the river’s edge which is wide enough only for single file walking in places. There will be a stop for coffee/tea at some point. Dogs are required to be kept on leads on some forest tracks
