Oare Creek Nature Reserve, with its saltmarshes, freshwater dykes, reedbeds and open water, is rich in wetland birdlife. We follow sections of the King Charles III National Coast Path and the Saxon Shore Way and turn inland to pass through the former Gunpowder Works. In the afternoon, we explore the other side of the creek, returning through Ham Marshes and passing Oare Windmill.
We pass the starting point at lunchtime, so anyone who prefers a shorter walk (just under 71/2 miles) can leave the walk here. Everyone else, please bring a picnic, and binoculars if you are interested in birds.
Opportunity for after-lunch refreshments at The Shipwright's Arms.
The walk is more or less flat.
Dogs on leads welcome.
