From the car park we we have a short road walk before turning off onto the Nidderdale Way footpath which we follow along the valley bottom across several fields until we reach Limley Farm. We then have an uphill climb to Thwaite House and then continue on along the N.W. path before a further uphill section takes us to the top of the ridge near the shooting lodge. The path from here meanders up and down for a while until it drops down to the reservoir where we cross the embankment and into the picnic area where we will stop for a lunch break. After the break we will make our way over Scar House Pasture and follow the farm track into Middlesmoor Village. We then drop down to How Stean Gorge to visit the visitors centre for refreshments after the walk
The walk follows part of the Nidderdale Way footpath (Which is a L.D.W. circular walk which starts and finishes at Brimham Rocks) and is quite varied consisting of fields, farmland, moorland and woodland. There are a number of stiles on the route and it is possible we may encounter cattle in some of the fields we have to cross . There are public toilets in Lofthouse village, Scar House reservoir and How Stean Gorge. If the weather is kind to us there will be good photo opportunities along the route as this area is renowed for its natural beauty.
