From the village we follow the footpath alongside the river Skirfare until we reach the Hawkswick footbridge. We then have a short road walk before turning off at Arncliffe Cote and begin a long steady climb up to the ridge top at High Linseed. From this point the path meanders down over the moor towards Great Close hill , we then turn off the main path and head over to Middle House farm then take the Monks Road footpath over to Malham Tarn where we will stop for a lunch break. After the break we retrace our footsteps back to Middle House farm and continue on along the Monks Road path across the moor before dropping down back into Arncliffe. Refreshments will be at the local P.H. after the walk.
The walk for the most part is mainly across open moorland with a few uphill sections and there is a steep descent at the end of the walk as we drop down into Arncliffe, walking poles would be useful at this point. It is quite possible that we may encounter cattle along the route, even at high level. Weather permitting the views particularly at high level are spectacular so there wiil be good photo opportunities
