From the car park we head down to the church then take the path which takes us to Brackenbottom. We then turn off and take the uphill wallside path which takes us to the `nose` of Penyghent. After crossing a stile we take the path ,which is quiet rocky and a hands approach is needed in a couple of places, to reach the summit where we will stop for a break. After the break we will walk along the ridge towards Plover Hill before descending down to the Foxup Road path which we will follow for three miles over the moorland and all the way back into Horton in Ribblesdale. Refreshments will be at the local hostelry after the walk.
Penyghent is the third highest peak Yorkshire at 2273 feet and weather dependant may be quite misty on the day, that being the case the walk can be shortened to accommodate the conditions. The walk is mainly over moorland, which may boggy in places, following well established tracks and there will be a couple of steep descents as we make our way down from the ridge so, the use of walking poles may be useful. Please note the early START TIME this is because this area is extremely popular with walkers/ramblers some of which may be doing the Three Peaks Challenge.
