We are the Penrith Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
The eastern side of the Ullswater way, starting from Patterdale. We will drive to Pooley Bridge to catch the service 508 bus from Pooley Bridge at 9.20. The route goes via Helton, continuing round Hallin Fell on the lakeshore path, then climbing up on good well-marked paths to the Cockpit stone circle and then down to Pooley Bridge.
This is a linear walk. Bring your bus pass. If you are meeting us in Patterdale you will need to arrange transport back from Pooley Bridge. The walk will be done at a moderate pace. Please be aware that there is a fallen tree in one section, which can be easily scrambled over. If the weather is icy bring mini-spikes if you have them.
If the weather is bad we will not go up to the Cockpit but will follow the low level alternative mainly over fields back to Pooley Bridge.
