We will leave Lower Green Tewin, coffee and rolls available from the Village Stores from 9.00, https://www.tewinvillage.co.uk/village/tewin-stores/ to walk downhill through Lamb Dell Wood and Archer’s Green to reach The River Mimram. We will cross Panshanger Lane to enter Panshanger Park.
Crossing the Mimram, we will walk up to visit the Panshanger Great Oak. This is believed to be the largest single-stemmed oak tree in the country and it stands about 65 feet (19.8Metres) tall and 26 feet (7.9 metres) in circumference. The exact age of the Great Oak is not know but it is believed to be about 450 years old.
We will walk past The Orangery before exploring more of the park including the new woodland planting to celebrate The Platinum Jubilee.
Reaching the Eastward end of the park we will join the Chain Walk to walk through Selebroom Wood and Bacon’s Farm. There are usually interesting tractors and horses at Bacon’s Farm. Walking South beside Red Wood we cross the road to walk past the lovely grade11* listed Marden Hill. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marden_Hill
Crossing our earlier tracks we pass through Lamb Dell Wood again to walk West and South to once again see The Mimram and visit Tewinbury Farm. There is the opportunity for refreshments here.
From Tewinbury it’s a short walk back via the church and passing a rather spectacular barn.
Please bring drinks and refreshments for the whole walk as the opportunity to purchase refreshments is only available at the start and towards the end of the walk and after the walk.Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.
If you would like to only walk the first half of the walk, Tewin to Panshanger, please contact Sarah to discuss.
