A varied walk encompassing open moorland and quiet Devon lanes. We’ll head off through Peekhill Plantation before zigzagging up Peek Hill and crossing to Sharpitor. We then cross a main road and walk towards Eggworthy, a sheltered spot where snowdrops and daffodils are out, and then pick up the cycle trail again.
Peek Hill is exposed and likely to be cold and windy at this time of year. But it will blow the cobwebs away and if the weather is clear, there will be views across Devon countryside and moorland towards tors and Burrator Reservoir.
Mix of lanes and moorland walking on tracks and paths. Muddy and wet underfoot in places. There is up and down with the main uphill near the beginning of the walk up Peek Hill. Couple of stiles, including a ladder stile. There’s a large fallen tree trunk that can only be crossed by sitting on it and swinging your legs over.
Bring a drink for our coffee stop. Warm clothing and waterproof boots advised.
