Overview

From St George's Centre we give a passing nod to the lions of the Town Hall before crossing the Headrow to admire the Moroccan splendour of John Barran's warehouse. From here we make our way across Wellington Street to investigate the last remains of the old Central Station before crossing the Leeds and Liverpool canal to view the Italianate chimneys of the Tower Works and then onto the Egyptian ambitions of John Marshall's flax mill. Then it is back to the canal to Leeds Docks, diverting to pay homage to two foundation stones of Leeds- Tetley Brewery and the birthplace of Leeds United. From the dock we retrace our steps to cross the canal by the footbridge and walk up Kirkgate, one of the oldest streets in Leeds. Passing Leeds Market, another splendid building, we cross Vicar Lane to walk through two of Leeds's beautiful arcades to the Headrow before visiting the oldest church in Leeds, St John the Evangelist. From here we are on the home straight down Great George Street back to the St George's Centre, passing St Ann's Catholic Cathedral on the way
