A circular 6-1/2 mile walk starting at 10 am from Wilderness Car Park. From Wetherby we walk up Walton lane and carefully cross the roundabout over the A1 . Then turn right on a track and then left . It is a flattish walk but usually walked at a moderately fast pace. The muddy conditions around Heuthwaith Lane can be a bit challenging especially this time of year. The river Wharfe is on a steep bank to our left. Eventually we reach Wood Lane, then turn right and walk along the road ( although quiet, it is bendy & cars tend to speed). We enter the charming village of Thorpe Arch. The Pax Inn is meant to be re-opening on the 14 th Jan (but possibly not in time for when we pass it.) So a short lunch stop can take place at All Saints Church - a Norman church just across the some fields from the Pax Inn. Then we make our way to the old disused rail track along the road through to Thorpe Arch , where the track is on the left - back to Wetherby, crossing carefully the Wetherby/ Walton road . Deer were recently spotted near this track. Then under the A1 underpass (provided it’s not flooded) - we walk left along Freemans way , then right on Hallfields lane pass Wetherby High School back towards the town centre. The walk is dog friendly.
